Shillong, August 17: With the inauguration of ‘Aesthetica Dental Department’ at Woodland Hospital, the people of Meghalaya will now be getting Dental and Maxillofacial treatment which is for the first time in the state.
The department was inaugurated by the Health & Family Welfare Minister AL Hek today in a small gathering which was witnessed by a few dignitaries, doctors and staffs of Woodland Hospital.
Speaking on the occasion AL Hek stressed on the importance of health care which he said the government is trying to improve through the Mega Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).
“In this instance we have been trying to incorporate the MHIS with Woodland Hospital and better still it would be if we can make it possible for the out-patient department (OPD) patients as well so that they will benefit from this scheme,” Hek said.
The Heath & Family Welfare Minister, who also holds the IT and IPR portfolio, said that more than 90 % of the people in Meghalaya cannot afford expensive treatment outside the state. “Therefore health care system should be made affordable to the people,” Hek said.
Elaborating further on the technology that will be used in the new department, Dr Kamlesh Kothari, Head of Department of Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery, Apollo Gleneagles Hospital Kolkata, and the Director, Clinical of Aesthetica, Kolkata delivered his presentation.
Treatments available in the department will include Keyhole Dental Implants, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Treatments and Smile Designing Procedures.
Another unique concept of Aesthetica is the facial beauty related medical disciplines which will help persons not only to have a beautiful smile but also can regain their confidence by changing their facial appearance to the way they want.
“Our goal is to provide a pleasant experience to our patients in a hygienic environment, a place where scientific knowledge, artistry and personalized attention combined to deliver the best in dental and maxillofacial surgery,” Dr Kothari said.
General treatments available are Routine Oral Prophylaxis (cleaning and polishing), Wisdom Tooth extraction, Root Canal Treatment, Dentures-False teeth and Crown and bridge, Child Dental Care and Treatment for Bleeding Gums, Bad Breath.
Dr Kothari further said that the department is equipped with digital x rays, which has 90 percent less radiation, and an IO camera and patient education software, manned by a team of specialists from Kolkata.
