Shillong, Oct 16: The Chairman of the Khasi Hills Conservative Forum (KHCF) Titus Chyne MDC said that “ all are welcome to the monolith festival that will be held at Mawphlang on the 25 and 26 of this month. In these two days festival will showcase the Khasi culture which was conserved from time of memorial.
Mr Chyne who is the Chairman of the KHCF said that, the festival was held in collaboration with the District council, since the District Council is the custodian of the culture of the Khasi tribe, it is befitting to hold these festival to showcase to the world that hear that the khasi has its own culture.
The Chairman has appeal to all people to come to the two days festival to witness the cultural show and many others traditional items that will be display in this festival. All cultural troops from different parts of the Khasi Hills will be display on these tow days festival.
The Monolith Festival is unprecedented in terms of not only the cultural repertoire offered but also in the setting that the Festival will be conducted. The wide open spaces beside theSacred Grove are dotted by Menhirs and have been preserved in its natural state.
Designed to offer the finest and genuine of the Local indigenous fare, visitors will be given achance to stay in an environment which is truly Khasi and delectably served up feel of awarm and festive Khasi rural neighborhood.
The diverse aspects of the identity of the tribal communities of the people of the Khasi Hillsis sought to be re-defined and conserved through the ‘Khasi Heritage Viiiage’ at Mawphlang,one of the last few remaining strongholds of the Khasi culture.
This Heritage Village, the first of its kind in Meghalaya is an initiative of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), and aims to shbwcase the rich cultural and traditionaldiversity of the local people while upholding the traditional practices which are now rapidlylosing relevance in this ‘modern world’.
Facing the Law Kyntang or the Sacred Groves, at Mawphlang, the site of this Village willcertainly provide immense scope for appreciation of the much visited and widely publicisedsacred forest thereby generating renewed and growing interests from visitors all over theworld.
The proposed Monolith Festival to be held inside the Heritage Village, is an attempt of theCouncil to bring together these rich cultural traditions at one venue for a visitor to be able tosample music, dance, food and pure tribal life in one place.(SP News)
