Shillong, August 27: A Conglomeration of 9 Women NGO’s along with noted women activists, came together today afternoon, to discuss on strategies to curb crimes against women and children in the State.
The Lympung Ki SengKynthei, CSWO, KWADA, Impulse NGO Network, , North Eastern Regional Domestic Workers Movement, NEN( North East Network, HANM (Women’s Wing) MUWWO( Meghalaya United Women’s Welfare Organization, KKHA( Khun Kynthei Hynniewtrep Association ), along with Hasina Kharbhih former Team Leader Impulse NGO Network, and RTI Activist Angela Rangad all converged together at the Office of the CSWO at Laitumkhrah and deliberated on cases of rape and crimes against women and children.
The NGO’s fill that such cases be transferred to the Fast Track Court and not to the KHADC, as it was revealed that most cases in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) are lingering and victims are not getting justice. There will also be a follow up of such cases by identifying Lead NGO’s in all Districts along with the help with all concerned women NGO of the State.
It was also discussed that the NGO’s will request the DGP to identify Good sensitized Police IO’s for such cases against women and children and the IO’s identified should not be transferred at whims and fancies, of Politicians and bureaucrats.
It was also discussed that there were many Committees formed with regards to addressing crimes against women, which were in name but were defunct and such Committees will be asked to furnish their reports or status on Crimes against women.
The NGO’s will also monitor on the prominent cases like the Miller case, Small Phawa case, and many other cases involving influential people, along with all other rape cases, and create strong awareness to apprise the other Districts and a bigger meeting will be converged inviting all Women NGO’s from all over the State with one common goal to fight crime against women.(SP News)
