SHILLONG, DEC 11: Expressing discontentment over the recent hike and also demanding the state government on the regularization of their post but if not possible the government should increase their salary, the adhoc lower primary teachers under the banner All Meghalaya Adhoc Lower Primary School Teachers Association (AMALPSA) on Tuesday staged a one-day sit in demonstration in front of the All India Radio, Shillong.
It may be mentioned here that earlier the adhoc teachers have staged a dharna to pressed upon the government to hike their salary, informing reporters today in the city, AMALPSA Secretary, S. Khardewsaw said that on November last even the Association convened the meeting with the Chief Secretary of the state where the outcome was not satisfied adding that the Association demanded the other way while the government responded otherwise.
“The government should regularized our post as adhoc teachers in the state or should increase our monthly salary but till date the government fail to respond our demands”, he added.
He also informed that the Association demanded the government to increase their salary from Rs. 3, 000 to Rs. 12, 000 but the government had only increased to Rs. 6, 000 which will be in effect from December 1 this year.
“We are not satisfied by the hike made by the government since we demand from 3, 000 to 12, 000 per teacher”, he asserted.
Stressing on the difference between the lower primary and upper primary schools, Khardewsaw said that the teachers in the upper primary schools are more paid than the teachers in the lower primary but in terms of the number of classes, the lower primary have more classes than the upper primary adding that the teachers in the lower primary have to put more effort in teaching the students than in the upper primary.
“We demand equal pay for equal work and we have no choice to come out to the street to demand our rights”, he said.
“If the state government failed to immediately respond our demands today then we have no choice but to intensify our agitations”, the AMALPSA Secretary asserted.(SP News)
