Shillong. March 19: With large number of people from Meghalaya every year travelling to Apollo Hospitals in Tamil Nadu for Treatment, now the Apollo Hospitals group, one of India’s major Health sector group is planning to set up its first clinic in Meghalaya.
This will give a boost to the health care facility in the state where the shortage of doctors and adequate medical care is often a cause of concern.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Group medical officer, Apollo hospitals, Dr Anupam Sibal informed that as part of 30 years of existence, the group is travelling to different parts of the country imparting medical knowledge and education programmes.
“Apollo group is keen to set up a clinic in the state in order to be in touch with the local populace of the region,” Dr Sibal said adding “We have interacted with the local doctors in regards to the common problems faced by the people of the state and region.”
Every year thousands of people from North east travels to the mainland India to avail the benefit of the health care facilities that is available there.
Stating that people from North east has different lifestyle, Dr. Sibal cited the example of the life threatening diseases which are common here, he said one such habit is the habit of chewing betelnuts which often lead to oral cancer.
The diseases of kidney and gall bladder stones, tumors and payeals are also common top the people residing in the North eastern belt.
“In Meghalaya and Assam, every second house there is gall bladder patient,” Jain said adding “The reason can be of fooding habit and impure water.”
