Army effort to recruit youth of NE get tremendous response at Aizwal

MASSIVE RESPONCE TO ARMY RECRUITMENT RALLY AT  AizwalShillong, May 08: Amidst intermittent downpours and clouds, the Army Recruitment Rally commenced at the very picturesque Rajiv Gandhi Astro-Turf Stadium, Mualpui, Aizawl. Candidates from Lawngtlai, Lungpei, Serchhip and Saiha Districts responded with enthusiasm to the effort by the Army to join the Indian Army and serve the Nation. All together 4700 candidates responded over two days on 07 and 08 may 2013.

Shri Vakkom Purushothaman, His Excellency, the Governor of Mizoram visited the rally on 07 May.His E the Governor in his address highlighted the high literacy level in Mizoram and hence the need for people to go out of the State to seek employment to avoid un-employment.  He gave the example of his home State Kerala, which has the highest literacy rate in the country (Mizoram is second).

Kerala has successfully been exporting manpower to the whole world and maintaining high employment rate.  His Excellency, the Governor also thanked and praised the Army for conducting the rally and providing employment to the tribals of Mizoram.  His Excellency, the Governor was pleased with the response in large numbers. Brig RV Singh Deputy Director Recruiting, (NE States) briefed the Governor on the recruitment process and procedures.

A large number of other civil dignitaries were also present on 07 May. All present praised the open, fair and transparent system of recruiting.  The stringent checks, use of bio-optics, proprietary software was an eye opener for civil dignitaries and even retired Army personnel.

The Sainik Welfare Board, Aizawl provided some retired personal to act as interpreters.  They were a great help in interacting with candidates.   The candidates were over enthusiastic and unruly at times. The Young Mizo Association assisted by providing free snacks and lunch to the candidates.  It was a boon for the candidates as they were well looked after during the day long processes.

The State Civil Administration has been a great help in organizing the recruitment rally.  The Shri Lal Thanhawla, Chief Minister Mizoram was instrumental in ensuring support of the State Machinery. Brig RV Singh Deputy Director General Recruiting (NE States) thanked the State Administration for their help.  He also complimented the Recruiting Staff, Independent Member and support staff of 457 Field Hospital and 26 Assam Rifles for their help.  He specially complimented Col MR Arun Iyengar of 457 Field Hospital for his and his unit’s unstinted support.

Due to torrential rains on 08 May, it was a challenge to conduct the rally in extremely inclement weather.  All candidates present till 1500 hours were given an opportunity to participate in the run.  Many candidates availed many opportunities due to disruptions due to rains and extended conduct of the run, said Col DS Phansalkar, Director Recruiting, Aizawl who was the coordinator for the rally.

On 09 May, rally is for technical entry from all NE States and for Mizoram, Sons of Ex-servicemen, War Widows and NCC Certificates holders. Shri Lal Thanhawla, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram is scheduled to visit on 09 May said the released from the army.(SP News)
