Guwahati, March 03: General secretary of KRISHAK MUKTI SANGRAM SAMITY (KMSS), and RTI activist, Akhi Gogoi, have been sent to four days police custody by the CJM court today.Gogoi, was arrested today before the dawn break from his residence in Guwahat,and was later taken to Punbazar police station.A case was filed against Gogoi, under section 306 IPC which is non bailable,and 120 (B) IPC.
Following the death of one Pranab Boro, who died in Guwahati on 24th February after self immolation,both section of the IPC was imposed in the case against Akhil Gogi for instigation and for conspiracy. Police believe that because of instigation Pranab Boro had self immolated.”The police had asked for 10 days custody, but were were able to cut down to four days”,said Bijan Mahajan, defense lawyer.
The KMSS, have been seriously agitating for the land rights of the indigenous people.Pranb Boro died fighting for land rights and he have been declared as a Martyr by the KMSS. The KMSS is of the view that the Assam Government have been alloting wet lands ,agriculture land to the business community while the government have been depriving the poor indigenous people.(SP News)
