Shillong, Jan 01: On the occasion of Christmas, the Assam Rifles dedicated its newly constructed covered entrance gate to the locals of Nongkrem village and the Meghalaya state. The newly constructed gate was inaugurated by Air Marshal RK Sharma, AVSM, VM, AOC-in-C Eastern Air Command on 25 December 2013, in the presence of Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles and other civil and military dignitaries.
The “Nongkrem Gate” as it is named; is a blend of local architecture and modern key features. Equipped with fully automated swing gates and boom barriers, with a host of safety and security measures, the covered entrance gate has been completed in a record
time. It has not only given a face uplift to the Assam Rifles Garrison at Laitkor, but also added to the overall beatification and development of the local area; besides catering to the essential security imperatives of the Station.(SP News)
