Shillong, July 27: The Ex Service men cell of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) observed the KARGIL VIJAY DIVAS on firday. The Function presided over by Ret. HMT EME Shr Anand Thapa, convener of Ex Sevice Men Cell Meghalaya BJP was also attended by the State President Shri Khlur Sing Lyngdoh, State General secretary Dipayan Chakraborty and senior party functionaries.
The party members paid tribute to Lieutenant Keishing Clifford Nongrum (MVC)who on the night of 30 June 1999, in the operations to capture Point 4812, for which he fought and refuse to be evacuated and fought valiantly till he succumbed to his injuries. His brave act resulted in the ultimate capture of Point 4812.
On this day, 26 July 1999, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistani intruders.
The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26 July. Two minutes silence was observed in respect of those Solders who have lost their life for the cause of Mother India in the Kargil war.(SP News)
