Boxer L Devendro Singh of Manipur win a gold in Hungary

Guwahati, Feb 21: His worthy achievement have earned him yet another milestone as he is about to be promoted to the rank of Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. This is a very rare feat to be achieved by any individual as young as Davendro who is barely 22 years of age(Normally one gets this Rank after completing 22-24 years of physical service).

Havildar Laishram Devendro Singh, Vishist Seva Medal  joined the Boys Sports Company, Army Sports Institute, Pune  on 31 Jan 2002 since he was 10 years of age.   Devendro was born on 2 March 1992 in Imphal West district, Manipur.  His sister, Sushila Devi, is a former national boxing champion and his mentor in early life.

Directly enrolled as a Non commissioned officer in Mar 2010 at Arty Centre, Hyderabad. L Devendro represented India at the  London Olympics 2012 and has been very close to the podium finish at  Olympics. L Devendro  won the silver medal at the Asian Confederation Boxing Championship in 2013. He is being felicitated with Vishist Seva Medal in Mar 2014  by Indian Army for his distinguished contribution in boxing.”He possesses techniques, stamina  and determination to pull out an explosive performance” says his coach Subedar C A Kuttappa at the National camp.

Recently he  has won the Gold Medal at the  recently concluded 58th Bocskai Istban Memorial International Boxing Tournament held at Debrecen, Hungary from 4 to 9 Feb 2014. Army Sports Institute is making all efforts to provide full organisational support towards passion of the sportsman to reach his Goal.(SP News)
