Shillong, Nov 30: The 236 recruits OF 5 & 8 Gorkha Rifles Regiments were attested today in 
a glittering passing out parade at 58 Gorkha Training Centre, Shillong. The parade was reviewed by Brigadier Manohar Thomas, Commandant 58 GTC. Brig Thomas exhorted the young soldiers to serve the nation as per the rich legacy and traditions of Indian Army and Gorkha Regiment.
Recruit Manoj Thapa was adjudged overall best Recruit of the course while Recruit Krishna Gurung was adjudged the best 5 GR Recruit and Rifleman Moti Thapa was adjudged the best 8 GR Recruit.
The parade was followed by a cultural extravaganza including the famous Khukri dance, Military band concert and aerobics show. The programme culminated with a high tea especially organised for the parents of the newly recruited soldiers. For the first time, the parents of the young soldiers were also honoured with the ‘PATRIOT BADGE’ to signify their contribution of sending their wards in the service of the motherland.(SP News)
