Shillong, August 20: In order to create awareness amongst people about the changing climate cycles and it’s aftermath and also to take appropriate actions to alter the same, “My Earth My Duty- 2013” a climate awareness programme was launched by Border Security Force Frontier Headquarter, Meghalaya in Shillong and all BSF Sector Headquarters and Units deployed on India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya from August 17 to August 21.
Border Security Force has launched this campaign under the aegis of BWWA (BSF Wives Welfare Association). BWWA has initiated this campaign as BSF’s biggest environment awareness initiative with the basic objective to make the people aware about the changing environment and the need to think about our ‘Earth’ and then take the consequential actions. BSF has launched this campaign to educate the BSF personnel and to instill a feeling of doing something for the “Mother Earth”.
As part of this campaign a tree plantation drive was carried out on 17th August 2013 in the Campus of BSF Sector Shillong and 73 Bn BSF at Mawpat, Shillong. On the occasion, while addressing the Jawans, Sh. Yadvendra Singh, DIG BSF stated that it is a great responsibility to conserve and save our environment in present scenario keeping in view the recent hazardous effects faced in Uttarakhand.
During this special campaign, around 15,000 saplings of various kinds will be planted by the BSF troops and their families all along the border areas and in BSF campuses. The various other events have also been planned which include Debate and Painting competition, Essay writing and Fancy dress competition on the theme ‘Environment’ for the children of the BSF Senior Secondary School. The campaign is being organized under the overall initiative and supervision of Shri Anil Kumar, IPS, Inspector General, BSF, Meghalaya Frontier.(SP News)
