Shillong, Jan 22: Even as the Department of Telecom, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNL) is trying its best to address the problems faced by customers however it is said that it cannot be done so easily as the department is undergoing through financial constraints, this was informed by the Sr GMTD BSNL on Tuesday
While informing of the financial problems faced by the department to its customers, the BSNL official said that the fund for development and maintenance is derieved only from the tariff thaken from the customers both landlines and mobile service.
Lamenting over the delayed and non payment of bills by customers, the official said, “As the oly source of funds is derived from the payment of bills done by customers, therefore it is very much required that all customers cleared their bills on time” adding that it is with that revenue that salary and maintenance of BSNL services can be financed.
Stressing upon the main problems face by the department which is the delayed and non clearance of payment in which as on date the outstanding arrears is rupees 30 crores against 36000 cases.
Further elaborating on the outsyanding payment the senior official informed that there were 233 customers having outstanding more than rupees one lakh, 594 customers with outstanding amount between 50,000 to one lakh, 6196 customers with outstanding of 10,000 to 50,000 and the rest having outstanding less than Rs 10,000. Besides, maximum outstanding by individual customer in Megahlaya SSA is Rs 11.8 lakhs.
While, commenting on the frequent problems faced by customers, the official informed that constant cutting of optical fibre cable due to road widening activities is also one of the problem.
Giving an assurance that the department will try its level best to address the problems, Sr GMTD BSNL said “Even with maximum number of OFC cuts, the officers and staff have somehow tried to maintain the network to the best of their ability”.
Apart from road widening which causes frequent cut of the optical fibre, the official also informed that underground cables used for landlines were stolen due to theft.
Meanwhile urging upon the customers to clear their payment, the senior official said, “It is therefore required that our esteemed customers understand our problems and help the department by clearing their outstanding dues”.
