Shillong, Jan 5: The members of the Raid Laban Sports Social and Cultural Organization (RLSSCO) in collaboration with Laban Dorbar and Thrang Hok Rangad Academic (THRAS) unveiled the bust of (Late) former home minister and local MLA of Laban constituency, Thranghok J Rangad at Red Cross / Pine Mount junction on Saturday.
The bust was construtced in loving memory of Rngad who was his close friends and acquaintances who was also considered as a classic example of a gentleman- politician.
Speaking at the occasion, state GAD minister, AL Hek recollected his memories in association with his late friend and colleague.
“As a friend I learned valuable things and till date try and follow his principles,” Hek asserted.
While lauding the effort of Rngad Hek said, “Meghalaya till date have few legislators of the calibre of this man who considered it a great privilege to represent his people and, therefore, took everything concerning their interests to heart,” Hek said adding “He believed in reality and had a vision to bring up the society.”
He also added that the BJP legislator from Laban (Bah Thrang) took up an issue, one could be sure he would see it to its logical end. He was the only legislator who did not mind sacrificing his chair for the principles he believed in.
Later, Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Sanbor Shullai lauded the efforts of Bah Thrang and said that the state went to a great loss in the year 2003, the 49 year old legislator from Laban constituency died.
“Rangad was a man of few words,” Shullai said adding “But when he spoke, it was always after carefully considering what would serve the greater good of the people.”
He also said that as a minister, Rangad brought in several far-reaching changes even though some of those were strongly vetoed by colleagues in the ministry.
“The bust is a gift for the people residing in Raid Laban Circle and it is our responsibility to maintain it,” Shullai said.
The RLSSCO also urged the GAD minister, AL Hek to change the name of the road from Howell road to Thrang road to which the minister replied that a total study will have to be conducted and then the step can be taken whether to change the name of the road.
Meanwhile, it was informed that the whole maintenance of the bust will be done by the members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Shillong. (SP News)
