Shillong Nov 21: Aimed at spreading awareness and providing information, besides educating and communicate with the masses on issues related to conservation of water for the future, a state level painting competition on ground water conservation was organised the Ministry of Water resources, government of India amongst school children with the theme “Repleate ground water before it depletes” at Anton Hall, Don Bosco Point on Wednesday.
Stressing on the urgent need to address the issue of conserving ground water level before it gets depleted, minister for soil and water conservation Professor RC Laloo said that water has to be there to live a comfortable life. He also said that with changes of climate and population, environment gets polluted which inturn pollute ground water.
The painting competition is open for the students of class 4, 5 and 6 standards in three stages namely school, state and national level. Altogether, 3500 students from all the district of the state took part in the painting competition and fifty of them were selected. From amongst the fifty students by Aradhika paul of class 6 from BSF Senior Secondary School Umpling bagged the first prize, Prakash Das of 6 from All Saints Diocesan Higher secondary School bagged the second prize and Nadini Das of Class from St Margareth bagged the third prize.
Meanwhile, It was learnt that the winners of the first, second and third prize in the state levelk competition will participate in the National Painting competition which will be held at New Delhi on January 21, next year. (SP News)
