Shillong, Nov 26: Following the allegation by the opposition MPF on Politician Rebel nexus in the state, Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma today admitted to a politician-militant “nexus” in the state and warned lawmakers that and no politician will be insulated from the purview of the law if such nexus are established.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma Tuesday said, “We cannot rule out any nexus with any politician in the state and security agencies are monitoring and verifying such nexus and no politician will be insulated from the purview of the law if such nexus are established.”
He said, “Whenever such information is brought to the notice of the government with sufficient evidence, the law will take its own course incidents and no politician will be insinuated from the purview of law.”
Talking to media person at the side line of the 14 finance commission meet, Meghalaya chief Minister said the politician-rebel nexus is not confined only with one political party, but it can be with any other political parties. “This possibility cannot be rule out we have certain inputs in the past which give enough reason to the government to verify and investigate,” the Chief Minister added.
He further said, “In the event of substantive evidence emerging on the nexus, the provisions of law will prevail.”
Sangma said the police are still investigating and whenever there is substantiated by enough evidence, the law of the land will be enforced accordingly.
Earlier, The Meg-halaya People’s Front (MPF) has sought Governor Dr K K Paul’s intervention on the deteriorating law and order situation in the State, even as demanded for a probe into the nexus between politicians of the ruling coalition and the insurgents.
Leader of Opposition Dr Donkupar Roy, who led the delegation of MPF– a combination of United Democratic Party (UDP), National People’s Party (NPP), Garo National Council (GNC) besides two Independent legislators — also submitted a memorandum to Dr Paul on Monday. (SP News)
