Shillong, Jan 18: Taking strong measures that there will be no disruption of the coming Assembly election slated for February 23, the State Chief secretary WMS Pariat informed that the state governmetn has urged upon the central government to deploy 73 companies of the para military in the trouble prone areas.
Informing this on Friday, Pariat said, “The step was taken keeping in mind the current situation prevailing in the entire Garo Hills region and we have requested the central government to deploy 73 companies of the para military forces,”.
He also informed that the first lot of the central para-military force will be arriving in the state on February 8 and they would be immediately positioned in different parts of Garo hills.
On being asked about the peace talks with the fraction Garo Hills banned militant outfit, ANVC (B), the CS replied that the talks are in process.
“It’s just being delayed because of the upcoming general elections and the implementation of the model code of conduct,” the CS said.
He also said that whatever terms and conditions were imposed with the mother outfit Achik National Volunteers Council (ANVC), the same would be applied with ANVC (B).
“We hope that soon after the elections, talks with the outfit will be made,” Pariat said.
