Shillong, July 5: The Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills has requested all the senior citizens, church and other religious leader, local leaders (Nokmas/Gaonburas), NGOs and the general public of the district to refrain from reacting to propaganda, false news through mobile phones and SMS and other means being circulated by rumor mongers and other vested interested with an intent to incite public sentiments and create misunderstanding. This will let to suspicion among the different communities residing peacefully in the district.
In its press release issued, the Deputy Commissioner said that the citizens of the district has been living in peaceful co-existence and harmony and no untoward incidents have been reported in the prevailing law and order situation till date. The same spirit of bonhomie and brotherhood among the various communities and tribes should prevail as always.
Therefore, District Administration is taking all necessary measures to prevent theoutbreak of any law and order situation due to the ongoing incidents of violence reported in the neighboring Distric Strong action will be initiated against those individuals who are found to intentionally circulated propaganda and false news amongst the general public.(SP News)
