Coal is no longer a duty free export item

Shillong, 19th October:  The office of the customs and central excise has sent to the exporter of Meghalaya that since coal has become accessible commodity and any person who carried on with the trade has to register their firm with the office of the central excise so that they will be able to carry out withier business.

Sources told SP News that the superintendent of customs of Tamabil today has circulated the notification no 01/03/2011-CE dated 01/03/2011 to all exporters that with this notification all exporters has to pay one percent advalorem on the other word know as  excise duty to the office of the central excise government of India.

Many exporter in anonymous told SP News that all these years since coal from Meghalaya was exported to Bangladesh as ROM (Run-Of-Mine) but to their surprise that the customs and central excise has classified the minerals as accessible commodity  which falls as taxable commodity.

While reacting to the notification that they have received today, they were shock to see that it was issued on the year 2011. Many of the exporters what make the office of the superintendent of Tamabil to take one year to circulate this notification of the government of India to the exporter.
