Congress kick starts campaign for Tura Lok Sabha seat from East Garo Hills

Tura, March 15: Meghalaya’s social welfare minister, Deborah Marak today introduced Congress candidate Daryl William Momin at an election rally in Williamnagar, East Garo Hills.

Deborah described Daryl as “young leader, who aspires to bring about change”. Making a pitch for Daryl, Deborah spoke on efforts to democratise the system, and allow more voices to be heard.

Focusing on the burgeoning young population, Deborah said, “Congress party is committed of getting India out of its economic downturn and creating jobs”. She made an assertion that India needs more young people in politics, who will be able to represent.

In a way Deborah made attempts to put Daryl on a pedestal of young brigade, who will lead the nation.

“Our leader should be able to speak out and voice the concern of the people they represent. Daryl is young, educated and has the willingness to work”, said Deborah.

Stating that work life for young leaders is full of challenges, Deborah asserted that Daryl may be young but has the will-power to champion the cause of Garo hills and North East at the national level.

“Young leaders’ idea of building the nation is different from their older counterparts. Young people want to build better nation with better policies. The next generation is convinced that a better India can be built only by building better people”, said Deborah.

Though Deborah did not hit out at Congress opponent, veteran Purno Sangma, who is contesting for the ninth term from Tura as National People’s Party (NPP) candidate, she made it a point that Congress stands for empowering young people – be it in politics, education, employment or entrepreneurship.

Dwelling elaborately on the power of democracy, Deborah asked people to exercise their franchise with the right spirit to bring about change.(SP News)
