Shillong, Feb 28: After ten years that the Congress which has been heading coalition governments in Meghalaya for decades now has come back with a bang bagging altogether 29 seats in the 60-member house even as the women-dominated electorate has opted for four women legislators, the highest in the matrilineal state so far.
Winning for 29 seats the Congress, is all set to form the next government as it swept the Meghalaya assembly poll to sixty- assembly seats in the result that was declared on Thursday.
It may be mentioned here that the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma retained his seat from Ampati constituency. Besides, three Congress ministers HDR Lyngdoh, Ampareen Lyngdoh and Prestone Tynsong have retained their seats and won beating their rivals.
Though, the party lost veteran candidate and former speaker Charles Pyngrope from Nongthymmai Constituency who was defeated by a UDP candidate Jemino Mawthoh yet a new entrant to the Meghalaya assembly and Congress candidate Kennedy Khyriem turn out to be a giant killer as he defeating UDP candidate and sitting minister JA Lyngdoh.
With twenty nine seats secured by the Congress the state will get to see a congress led government.
But the question remained who will get the chief minister seat.
