Shillong, August 25: Office of the Commissioner Customs (Preventive) North Ea
stern Regiaon Shillong acting on specific intelligence, officers of Customs Headquarters Preventive Unit, Cornmissionerate of Customs (P), North Eastern Region, Shillong along with personnel of Special Operation Team of Meghalaya Police conducted a search operation at Nongspung Village, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya today.
In this raid the Customs mange to ceased 838.500 kgs (net) of ganja (cannabis). The recovered cannabis were packed in 32 gunny bags and were covered with a silpauline sheet which were hidden in a jungle on the outskirts of the said village.
From thepreliminary investigation, it reveals that the said narcotics are meant for smuggling to Bangladesh. Accordingly, seizure was effected vide Case No. Ol/UCL/NARC/HQRS.PREVISW13-14 dated 25.08.2013. The Ganja that was ceased it’s valued at about 41,92,500/- (Rupees forty one lakh ninety two thousand five hundred) only. No one is arrested and further investigation of the case is going on.
