Shillong Dec 4: Concerned over stacked garbage accumulated along areas in and around motphran which is one of the busiest market place in the city, the Lympung ki Hynriew shnong (LKHS) which comprises of six localities Mawkhar, Wahingdoh, Riatsamthiah, Umsohsun, Mission Compound and Wahthapbru asked the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) to adopt an action plan to stop dumping of garbage at Motphran area while demanding the engagement of sweepers for regular cleaning of the area.
While apprising on the serious issue to the chief executive officer of SMB the LKHS demandi immediate intervention from his side.
In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, LKHS president Drowning Dkhar said that the unhygienic condition of the Motphran area is deteriorating day by day and despite being the central place in the heart of the city, it is however, sad to state that this is the most neglected area in the city where there is rampant and hazard dumping of garbage which has become an eyesore to the public.
He also said that the area at present looks like a dumping ground adding that the intolerant stench emitted out of the non-stop spill over of toilet water from the existing public latrines has caused a health hazard to the pedestrians who have no alternative but to pass through the area.
Presenting a detailed information Swer informed that the programme there are four important components within the programme which includes Knowledge Management, Natural resources, entrepreneurship promotion and good governance.
Deliberating further Swer said Meghalaya is a state blessed with natural resources however lack of knowledge and information most of the resources turned to waste as the people here cannot tabbed the resources.
“If we have a knowledge on how to tabbed the resources our people would have beneffited so much out of it”, Swer said adding that this programme aimed at uplifting the people and provide them with proper information on how to go about it adding that through this programme people will not become beneficiaries anymore but instead they will become stakeholders.
Besides, John F kharshiiing chairman of the grand council of chief said that if we want the state to prosper good governance is needed as this is the only way which will take the state ahead.
Lamenting on the lack of good governance in the state Kharshiiing said becasue of the lack of good governance therefore the till date the Mining act in the state.(SP News)
