Guwahati, August 15: Dilip Nunisa, Former Chairman of the DHD,once a dreaded Militant organisation of N C Hills,of Assam,now disbanded, was caught today in Guwahati, along with othere people in case of smuggling a rare reptile called the “TOKEY GECKO” lizard.
Dilip Nunisa the former militant leader now turned politician, was found carrying the TOKEY GECKO reptile in his bolero,while on his way to Haflong,accompanied by his security officials, and was believed to be involved making deals for smuggling this particular reptile, With this connection a group of five people were caught travelling in the Bolero,while one had managed to escape.
“This particular reptile is a threatened species and is being protected under wild life act. There are beliefs among people that medicines prepared form this reptile can cure AIDS and CANCER, but however scientific research does not prove that”, said L R Bishnoligp, Central western Range,Assam Police.
The police also seized 15 numbers of Mobile phones from the arrested peoples.Police official says that this reptile is being smuggled to South Chine,Mayanmar, from Assam, and also Mizoram. “The domestic market price of this lizard is around Rs.40,000 to 50,000 and in the international markets the price is Rs. 2 to 4 lac” Adds Bishnoi.(SP News)
