Shillong March 13: The Director General of the Border Security Force Sh Subhas Joshi IPS he visted the North Eastern Frontier in order to review the Security scenario on the International border of Meghalaya Sh Subhash Joshi, IPS, Director General BSF has carried out a visit in the area of Meghalaya Frontier BSF. The DG, BSF arrived on 12th March 2013 and visited the border area in the East Khasi Hills and the Jaintia Hills districts. He also reviewed the security scenario and the border management on the Indo- Bangladesh border.
He is an IPS officer from the 1976 batch IPS of Uttarakhand cadre. Before his appointment as the DG BSF, Shri Joshi has served as DG,NSG, DG(P), Uttarakhand and also served at other important assignments in the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and in the Centre. It was in his leadership as DGP Uttarakhand, the Maha-Kumbh at Haridwar was successfully organized in the year 2010 for which he won International acclaim. He has been decorated with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and President Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1994 and 2000 respectively. He has authored two research based books on Policing and is a regular contributor in many professional journals.
The Meghalaya Frontier of Border Security Force looks after Border Management of 443 km of International Border with the Bangladesh. In the area of Meghalaya Frontier, 09 BSF Battalions are deployed. Besides one BSF Bn i.e. 156 Bn is deployed in Garo Hills for Counter-Insurgency Operations against the GNLA.
The DG BSF visited BOP Dawki and Pyrdwah in East Khasi Hills district and reviewed the domination plan of border guarding on the International border. While addressing the Jawans, he exhorted them to maintain utmost vigil on the border and to ensure security of border and the border population. He desired that while Force personnel should be tough and strict in dealing with smugglers and other anti-national elements however, while dealing with the border population the Force personnel should be humane and must extend all help to win their hearts and minds.
He appreciated the efforts taken by the Meghalaya Frontier to outreach the border population by undertaking various Civic Action Programmes and directed to continue the same with more vigor. The DG BSF has declared 2013 as Year of BSF Jawans therefore he asked to focus on welfare of the jawans and to improve their living conditions on the border outposts.
The DG, BSF addressed a conference of the DIsG and the Comdts at the Conference Hall of Ftr HQ Shillong Umpling where he appreciated the operational performance of the Meghalaya Frontier and desired to further improve the border management so that border population feels more secured. He reiterated to maintain congenial relations with the border population as they are the important stakeholders in the border management. Later in the day, the DG,BSF called upon the Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Sh R.S.Moosahary.
On 13th March 2013, the DG, BSF inaugurated the ‘Employment- Linked Vocational Training Programme’ a pioneer project undertaken by the BSF Wives Welfare Association (BWWA) at the Ftr Hqrs Shillong. The programme in collaboration with B-Able aims to provide employment-linked vocational training to the wards/families of BSF personnel so that at the end of training they are able to get employment. The wards are being trained in Basic IT, Retail Sales & Marketing and Personality development. Meghalaya Ftr organized 1st such programnne from 3rd May 2012 to 2nd Aug 2012, in which 22 wards of BSF participated. It is worth mentioning that all of them got placements and are presently earning income ranging from Rs. 8,000/- to Rs.10,000/-. The DG BSF appreciated the efforts taken by the Meghlaya Ftr with a hope that objective of the course will be fulfilled after completion.
During the year 2013,Meghalaya Frontier has apprehended 09 GNLA militants, 07 OGWs/linkmen, 05 Indian and 10 Bangladeshi smugglers, 44 Bangladeshi illegal immigrants and seized 04 revolver,01 pistol,25 amn, FICN- 70,000 alongwith two BD FICN racketeers, Ganja- 78.45 kgs, phensedyl-5855 bottles, cattle 130 nos and contraband items worth Rs. 67 lakh approx.(SP News)
