Shillong, March 24: The District Election Officer and Returning Officer of 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency has informed that in pursuance to the Election Commission of India instructions and order of the Supreme Court of India the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee for East Khasi Hills District has been constituted under the chairmanship of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills. The members include the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sub-Divisional Officer (Election), Sohra, Representative of the Central Government, I&B Ministry Official in the District, President, Shillong Press Club and the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations as the Member Secretary of the Committee.
The Terms of Reference of the Committee includes previewing, scrutinizing and verifying all advertisement by individual contesting candidates or political parties, before inserted in the electronic media, certificate of advertisements, examining complaints/issues of paid news etc., scan all media e.g. newspapers, print media, electronic media, cable network, internet, mobile network etc. for suspected cases of paid news, monitoring of political advertisement in electronic media, monitoring of political advertisement in other media, in relation to candidates, either overt or covert, from expenditure monitoring angle, advertisement in print media and checking if the name and address of the publisher and the printer is carried on election pamphlets, handbills and other documents as required under section 127 A of the RPA Act 1951. The Committee shall also submit a daily report to Accounting team with copy to Returning Officer and Expenditure Observer in respect of each candidate in the prescribed format.(SP News)
