Shillong, Sept 11: The conglomeration of the fourteen villages of the Umroi area in Ri Bhoi District has come up openly in criticizing the tenancy act propose by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr Mukul Sangma to tackle illegal immigration and influx in the state of Meghalaya.
The ex- headman of Umroi-Umdoh- Byrthit Mr R L Lyngdkhoi along with the headman of various villages, while addressing the media person at Shillong Press Club today said that the Chief Minister Dr Sangma is wrong that the propose tenancy act will tackle the illegal immigration and Influx into the state.
The chief minister should understand that the Tenancy act will protect the tenant and not the land lord. The Chief Minister should adopt the registration act, where people coming from outside has to register themselves with the local dorbar.
Mr Lyngkhoi has also criticizes the District Council in the state of Meghalaya which has done nothing in protecting the tribal, instead of protecting the tribal the authority has centralized the power in their hand. The devaluation of power from down to the grass root level has not been done.
To tackle illegal migration and influx will be success if only the dorbar shnong are empower according to law. At present many dorbar shnong has acted with out getting any legal sanction.
He also inform that the villages under Umroi area soon they will form the ‘Synjuk’ to tackle the common issued not to allowed people to settle in their village with out having valid document. Others who were present in the meeting are Mr S Thabah, P Dkhar headman.(SP News)
