Dr Mukul Sangma sworn in as the 23 Chief Minister of Meghalaya

Dr Mukul SangmaShillong, March 05: Dr Mukul Sangma today take oath as the 23rd Chief Minister of Meghalaya at the Raj Bhavan Hall Shillong, the oath of secrecy was administered by the governor of Meghalaya Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary amidst the presentation of the Congress leaders. From among the Chief ministers of Meghalaya he is the youngest who occupied the hot seat.
Dr. Mukul M. Sangma was born on April 20, 1965 at Chengkompara village in South West Garo Gills his father is Binoy Bhushan M Marak and his mother is Roshana Begum. He completed his school education from the Government High School in Ampati 1982 and passed his pre-university examination in Science from St. Anthony’s College in Shillong 1984.
He did his MBBS from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal in 1989. While studying, he occupied a number of positions in the governing body of the Students Council of RIMS. In 1991, he joined as a medical and health officer at Zikzak Public Health Centre.
He joint politics in 1993, and contested from Ampati Constituency as Independent candidate and won the election. He was re-elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from Ampatigiri constituency in 1998, 2003, 2008 and 3013 as an Indian National Congress candidate.
When D. D. Lapang resigned as the Chief Minister on 19 April 2010, he became the Chief Minister of Meghalaya on 20 April 2010 and took the lead in the just concluded election which let the Congress party won 29 seat in the 60 members house. This make the AICC to chose him to lead the Congress government.(SP News)
