Shillong, March 1: The congress party who secured 29 seats altogether has now been able to form a stable government in the state with the support of two Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and eight Independent legislators.
A day after the election results was announced, the Congress who came back with a bang bagging 29 seats in the 60 member house sat for the first Congress Legislative Party (CLP) even as they also announced the CLP leader.
Incumbent chief minister Mukul Sangma has been reelected as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and subsequently will once again become the chief minister of Meghalaya.
Sangma was announced as the leader of the CLP after the three Congress observers had one to one meeting with all the twenty-nine newly elected party legislators.
After being “elected” as CLP leader Sangma along with other members of the Congress met the Governor of the state to stake claim in forming the government.
The newly elected CLP leader along with Ravi, Meghalaya Pradesh Congress president DD Lapang, AICC general secretary Sanjay Bapna, Prestone Tynsong, HDR Lyngdoh and Lok Sabha MP Vincent Pala met the Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary at Raj Bhavan.
After the meeting the governor, the Congress members informed that the swearing in ceremony is likely to take place on March 5 but that will come only after the Election Commission issues a notification dissolving the eighth Meghalaya(SP News)
