Shillong, Jan 9, 2014: In what can be termed as an act of vigilante the residents of Madanryting this afternoon nabbed a habitual drug user cum peddler while he was hiding some drugs meant for clients to pick up.
According to the Rangbah Dong of Block D of the locality, Bah Larem Kharkongor, the drug dealer came rushing in a Maruti Alto, then walked through an alley of the area and disappeared.
“Later on he came in a local taxi and walked through the same alley, but when the people approached to question him, he tried to flee and that is when we got hold of him,” Kharkongor said.
Upon thorough search, the residents found six Golden Tobacco containers amongst some waste that were lying in the alley.
Immediately, the Narcotic Squad of Meghalaya Police arrived at the scene and conducted tests which prove the content of the cans to be heroin.
This reporter found out that the 28 year old culprit, who is a graduate from Delhi and a resident of Laitumkhrah is a habitual drug user for more than one year and said that his name is Mark Najer.
“I am not peddling,” Najer said, “I just wanted the stuff so bad and it was driving me crazy since the morning I was searching for it because I was told by Grace that she has the stuff for me in this area.”
Najer further revealed that he had paid the dealer known as Grace an advance of Rs 3500/- for one can of the drug and that another Rs 2500/- would have to be paid when he receives the drug.
A total of 3.91 grams of heroin were then seized by the Narcotics Squad, while Najer has been taken into police custody.(SP News)
