DSWO organized the Assessment Camp Programme at Pangtung

Shillong, Oct 14: With the aim to bring inclusive education among the Children with Special Needs (CWSN), the District Mission Coordinator SSA East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the State Resource Centre (SRC), District Rehabilitation Centre (DRC) and the District Social Welfare Organization (DSWO) organized the Assessment Camp Programme 2013 held at Pongtung Presbyterian Secondary School.

District Coordinator of Inclusive Education East Khasi Hills Cordilia B. Rynjah informed that the aim of the program is to bring together the children with special needs and to give them the chance to be educated together at the same school with the general students.

The District Mission Coordinator SSA looked for children between 0-18 years, both enroll and dropout, whereas the DSWO took charge of the people from the community between 0-59 years.

During this joint camp, doctors from the Shillong Civil Hospital attended the children for medical checkup and issue the disability certificate to those children in needs.

“This certificate is like the passport for these Children and those people in needs. Having this, they can get aids and appliances from the SSA and the DSWO,” said Rynjah adding that there are about 118 people being registered in this particular camp at Pongtung.

She also mentioned that in the whole district altogether there are 10 camps. Only two camps have finished and eight camps are yet to be held in the district.

“The next camp will take place at Raid Shabong Border Area Secondary School, Pynursla on the 22nd October 2013. All the other camps will keep on continuing as per schedule till the 12th November 2013,” added Rynjah.

The four doctors attended the camp includes Dr. R. Nongbet (ENT), Dr. N. P. Laloo (Ortho), Dr. A. K. Roy (Psychiatrist) and other junior doctors.(SP News)
