y Mr AT Mondal, said that due to the social discrimination people who are suffering from HIV and Aids refused to disclosed about their sickness.
The speaker in his address on the World Aids day said that this social stickman should be remove from the society because many people who were infected by these diseases is not the fault of their own.
The speaker advocate that let the awareness be conducted in the rural area also, the Meghalaya Legislator Forum will help in this regard. The Forum will continue to help the Meghalaya Aids Control Society from the MLA local area development found.
In the rural area when some one talk about the HIV and AIDS is like a sin for them, he urged the MACS to go to the rural areas and create awareness among the people, the forum will help them.
The infected people by this virus were look down by the society, not only to thus patients but even thus people who talk about this and NGO’s were also look down. For this reason many people do not want to disclose.
When the first HIV and Aids detected in 1981 to 2007 people who have lost their lives is more than 25.5 million worlds wide. North East is mainly affected by these diseases due to the use of Drugs.
The speaker said that he is hopeful that with the advancement of medical treatment he hope that people will get better treatment and with the proper legislation will help to eradicate this problem from the society.
One of the HIV and AIDS patients who speak on this world aids day said that the main problems that they have to face in the society is the discrimination from the society,
The project Director of the Meghalaya Aids Control Society Dr F Kharkongor she said that, in tackling the problems in Meghalaya is not that they do not have money but due to luck of man power and poor infrastructure.(SP News)
