e-day wood carving and cooking competition underway

BAGHMARA, Nov 28: The three-day Wood carving and Cooking competition organised by the South Garo Hills District administration in collaboration with the Art and Culture department went underway today Baghmara Government Higher Secondary School Playground, near here.

South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner C P Gotmare in his inaugural speech urged upon the gathering to avail the opportunity given to them to showcase their talents during the three day competition. Lamenting the dearth of participants from the district in various trade fairs organised by the district administration Gotmare observed that even though there was no shortage of talented youth in the region the people failed to showcase their abilities due to lack of motivation.

Encouraging the gathering to produce innovative works of art during the three day long competition He stated that the best work of art would be selected to be presented as a souvenir to guests during the upcoming winter festival. Gotmare later urged the people to promote the mouth watering indigenous cuisines of the region like kappa, brenga and wetepa by showcasing them.

The winners, first runner up and second runner up of the three day wood carving competition will be awarded cash prizes of rupees fifty thousand, thirty thousand and twenty thousand each with five consolation prizes while the winners of the cooking competition will be awarded cash prizes of Rupees five thousand, rupees three thousand and rupees two thousand  respectively including consolation prizes.(SP News)
