EFL University and UNICEF Assam to organize CHIME 2013

 

 

Shillong, August 17:  The inaugural function of a series of programmes under the project Children in Media Experiments (CHIME) organized by the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) Shillong in partnership with UNICEF Assam will be held on the 19 August at the University premises to be followed by a day-long interactive orientation programme on Rights of the Child with students of various colleges of the city.

Resource persons for the orientation include Ms. Iba Synrem, Centre Co-ordinator, Childline Shillong; Ms. Jenneifer Dkhar, St. Edmund’s College, and Ms. Shima Modak, Founder and Principal, Shisha Shikoha Ghar, Shillong. The inauguration will be chaired by Dr. T.K. Bamon, Associate Professor, EFLU.

CHIME is a project which aims to spread awareness and to orient students in understanding the rights of the child and document their understanding through the use of various forms of media. The first CHIME was started in 2012 with a workshop on Participatory Media.  The second chapter, CHIME 2013, scheduled to be held in four stages between the months of August to November 2013, will start off on the 19 August 2013 with an interactive discourse to educate undergraduate level students from various colleges and universities of Meghalaya on the issues facing the protection of Children and Child Rights in contemporary Indian society.

Stage 2 will be a documentation process whereby students of undergraduate level will be reporting, monitoring and documenting various issues of  children by using different modes of media viz Print, Video,  mobile footages,  photographs, web portal and so on. In doing so, the workshop deems it imperative to impart training to students of undergraduate level in the basics of photography, print design layout, video production et al so that they gain the technical knowledge to undertake the aforementioned tasks.

A National Level Seminar will assume the entirety of Stage 3, which shall be graced with the presence of eminent personalities from the world of Media and people dedicated to the cause. Stage 4 is a dissemination process in which the best papers (selected by a panel) will be judged, awarded and presented before an open audience.(SP News)
