Shillong, Aug 24: Raising serious concern that superstitious beliefs often lead to a untamed situation causing the lost of precious lives, the Shillong Press Club (SPC) in collaboration with ICARE (Informed Conscious And Responsible Existence) held a ‘People’s Conclave’ on the theme “The Price of Superstition” at the Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar here on Saturday.
Though the conclave focuses on the point that every community has got their own beliefs and tradition and which cannot be done away, yet the beliefs should not touched the lives, properties of others.
Different speakers pointed out their views and opinions in connection with superstitious beliefs especially in regards to “Thlen” or menshohnoh. Though some is of their favoured opinion that there were such yet some said that it is just a perception.
With different views and opinions from various speakers but each and every speaker wanted that there should be an awareness programme and educate the people not to take the law at their own hands if there is any such situation.
Accordingly while summing up the conclave after taking considerations on the various views given by speakers from all walks of life including leaders from various NGO’s, church leaders, people from the district administration, represntative at the district Council, headmen, Police officials five important point was taken up.
The first point taken up from the conclave is that there if there be any incident from now onwards the people should not conspire and instigate the crime but they should inform the police and that they should not take the law at their own hands.
Secondly, there should be a co-operation between the local durbar and the police. Further, the conclave also stressed on the need to bring about a liberal educational system and to ensure that the students understand that they should not be carried away with such superstitious thoughts.
Besides, the conclave aslo urged the police department to speed up investigation relating to such cases.
Finally the conclave also felt the need of having mass awareness in order to prevent people from taking the law at their own hands.(SP News)
