Jowai, May 15: : T. Lhungding Deputy General Manager of Reserve Bank of India, Shillong branch said that financial inclusion is still a challenge in India. Elaborating on the subject Lhungding also said that in spite of the economic growth of the country, yet a large section of the rural population in the country are still not included in the economic growth. We need to bring the rural population and the poor section of the society in the scheme of things and to begin with they need to at least have bank account in any bank in the country concluded Lhungding. Having a bank account is only the beginning of financial inclusion of the citizen of the country.
The DGM of RBI, Shillong said this in an interactive session the bank had with the staff and students of the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Jowai. When it was brought to the RBI notice that customers even received fake currencies from the banks and sometimes even from ATM, Lhungding advised that the matter should immediately be brought to the notice of the concern bank and if the bank does not address the grievances, the customers can take the matter to the knowledge of the bank ombudsman and every bank should display the name and number of the ombudsman in a prominent space in the bank.
The programe was part of the financial literacy campaign oraganised by the RBI Shillong in which the Bank impart important information about banking system, saving habits and most importantly detection of counterfeit currency. A. Chakravarty Assistant Manager RBI, Shillong gave detail information on how one can identify a genuine currency note issued by RBI.
The meeting was held at the KJP Secondary School hall in the presence of the Vice Principal W. Passah and teaching faculty of the school.(SP News)
