Shillong, Nov 24: The first Government run Information Technology Training Centre in Meghalaya started functioning in Williamnagar. The Williamnagar IT Training Centre is established under Chief Minister Career Guidance Scheme. Classes for the first batch of 20 students was started on Wednesday.
The Admission into Williamnagar IT Training Centre, which is established and managed by East Garo Hills District Administration, is entirely free of cost. Any student belonging to East Garo Hills District who passed HSSLC (10+2) is eligible to seek admission.
Highly qualified trainers including Shri. Enoch Sangma, District Information Officer, National Informatics Centre are presently taking classes. The District Administration is intending to invite professionals from outside Meghalaya once it starts Advanced IT Courses.
The Training Centre is presently offering Basic Course in IT, which consists of Basic Computer Operation skills, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, DTP, etc. are taught. This Basic Course is structured in a way to provide sufficient skills and confidence to a student to seek IT related employment or take professional IT Courses. This is a great opportunity for the youth in an insurgency affected district.
Minister for sport and youth affairs Mr Zenith M Sangma, inaugurated the Training Centre during his recent visit to Williamnagar.Presently the District Administration has received more than 100 applications, due to which the District Administration is intending to start more than 2 parallel batches.(SP News)
