Fishery department will hold tow days aqua fest in Shillong

Shillong, Nov 04:  The Department of Fisheries, Government of MeghalayaIs organizing the first AQUAFEST on 6th and 7th of this month at the State Central Library, Shillong. The event will be inaugurated by the Chief Secretary Shri W.M.S Pariat.

The AQUAFEST will be an occasion to showcase the developments taking place in the fishery sector, under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission as also, an opportunity to market the fish produced locally by the farmers of Khasi and Jaintia Hills Districts. Dry Fishs also win be brought from Garo Hills and marketed on during the Aquafest.

Hundreds of Fish farmer  from the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region wilt bring thei produce and  market them  during the Aqua fest. Several other activities have been planned during the two days involving the school children and other cultural  teams. And painting  competition for the children will be held on the theme “Fish for Life”. Several fish snack counters are being set up, to make availableready to eat fish items to the visitors.

The Department requests the citizens of Shiflong and other parts of the State to participate in the AQUAFEST enthusiastically and buy fish and suppori the farmers. The Chief Secretary will also release a book on the “History of the Meghalaya State Aquiculture mission Conceptualized and how its contribution  to its growth in the last two years.(SP News)
