FKJGP Garo Hills zone condemn statement made by AAMSU

Shillong, July 09: The FKJGP Garo Hills zone condemned the recent statement made by the All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) who threatened to call for an economic blockade of Garo Hills unless Meghalaya Government raises the ex-gratia amount for the victims of the mob violence to Rs 10 lakh.

In a press statement issued here on Monday President of the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone Pritam R Marak said that the decision of the AAMSU to announce an economic blockade of Garo Hills at such a critical period goes to show the immaturity and short sightedness of the leaders of AAMSU.

“The AAMSU leadership seems to have forgotten that they should take up their issues with the authorities and not at the peace loving citizens of Garo Hills,” Marak said.

While stating that the people of Garo Hills is trying in every way to maintain peace, law and order in the region, Marak claimed that the the actions of the AAMSU threatens the entire peace process for which all organisations of Garo Hills has been working in unison.

Furthermore, the FKJGP dares the AAMSU if their agitation will be at all successful, we have alternate routes connecting Garo Hills to the rest of the country, however, there are many bussinessmen from their community who solely depend on the market of Garo Hills to trade their products.

Besides, Marak also condemned the authorities who could not stop the AAMSU from conducting meetings and carrying out the economic blockade.

He also stated that the actions of the AAMSU suggest that they want to provoke the people of Garo Hills, also it shows their disrespect towards all the peace initiatives that the people of Garo Hills has worked for.

Meanwhile, Marak questioned the authorities for not paying any ex gratia to the family of the mysteriously murdered School teacher and her neice in Boldamgre village of Selsella in the tensed plain belt region of Garo Hills along with her neice, whereas the authorities have paid an ex gratia of Rs. 300,000 each to the families of the coal labourers who where randomly murdered by a group of dacoits.

In conncetion to this the FKJGP demand for an immediate release of the ex gratia payment of Rs. 500,000 from  the authorities to both the families of the unfortunate lady and her neice.(SP News)
