Shillong, March 30: The Shillong Army Flower Show 2013 organized by the 101 Area with a grand spectacle of colour, music and display of martial skills at Garrison Ground concluded here on Friday.
Varieties of seasonal and potted plants, flower arrangements and a photo exhibition displaying a collage of the environment issues connected with the Shillong Cantonment and posters to convey a strong message on preservation of the environment were laid out for all to emulate.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest Lieutenant General SM, VSM GOC 101 Area RS Panwar, applauded the hard work put in by all ranks. Parnaik also desires that a booklet of the consultation with the Horticulture Department be prepared to help residents of the Cantonment organised their gardens in a manner that complements the natural beauty of Shillong and helps them prepare their gardens in a planned and systematic manner.
Station Commander, Station Headquarters, Brigadier Deepak Tyagi in his address informed that more than 30 varieties of flowers in more than 350 flower pots were put up for display in the competition.
On the spot flower arrangements, including fresh, dry and ikebana styles. The best garden competition included several categories. Bungalows, flats, office complexes, guest houses and army institutions in Shillong. All gardens, regardless of size and location, were part of the competition.
The Judges were Gurdip Singh, Harcharan Singh and CNS Prabhu from the army and Vishu Singhania life member of Shillong Agri and Horticulture society. The selection criterion included gardens that showed thoughtful plant selection, good design, composition, aesthetic appeal, space and water management.
The prize were given away by President regional Army Wives Welfare Association, (AWWA), Anupam Panwar in flower arrangement categories. Major General Gurdip Singh gave prizes in the best garden categories.Lt Gen Panwar the chief guest gave away trophies to the winners of the competition.The event included North East Warrior display by ARC, Kukhri dance by 58 GTC and Military band display by pipe bands from the two army centers of happy valley Shillong.
