Shillong, March 18: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Shillong gets to be at par with other stadiums in the country as the much awaited flood light installed at the stadium was finally inaugurated and lighted today.
For the first time in the football history of the state that a match is being played in the evening with the help of flood lights at the Dr T Ao Football tournament which was kicked off here on Monday.
Each of the four towers consists of 44 metal halide lamps of 2,000 watts each and are synchronised electronically. To ensure constant electricity, two powerful 320 KvA generator sets will provide uninterrupted supply.
The Dr T Ao Football tournament will withness eight north-eastern states vying for the coveted trophy, which is constituted by the Department of the Northeastern Region (DoNER) and the North Eastern Council (NEC). While Manipur had won the first two editions of the tournament, Mizoram had emerged the winner in the last tournament.
Meghalaya will be the fourth state to host the meet, the first three editions of which were held in Nagaland, Manipur and Sikim respectively.
It may be mentioned here that the main objective of the tournament is to promote the healthy spirit of competition amongst the youths and players of the eight north-eastern states.(SP News)
