Foundation stone of the Pynthor Langkyrding Flow Irrigation Project

Shillong, Dec 14: The foundation stone for the construction of the Pynthor Langkyrding Flow Irrigation Project (PLFIP) estimated at rupees Seventy Nine Lakhs Eighty Nine thousand and Four hundred, which will cover the irrigation area of 59 hectares was laid by the State Water Resource Minister, AL Hek on Friday.

“The irrigation facility will allow farmers to draw water to their fields whenever there is a need and also make optimum use of the available source of water. This will ease the burden and bring down the input cost of the farmers and in turn will facilitate them for making further investment in crops which will then increase the yield and finally food production,” Hek said while addressing the gathering after the laying of the foundation stone at the community hall of Langkyrding.

Hek said that the project will assist the farmers of the area in the field of irrigation and cultivate more of the organic products adding that earlier, the state water resource department had met the concern Union Minister, Harish Rawat and had apprised him about the problem faced by the poor people of the state.

Explaining about the components of work, Chief Engineer (WR), PA Lyngdoh said that across the Langkyrding stream, two numbers of check dams (one each across Langkyrdillg stream and Pynthor stream), one number of subsidiary intake pain across Wah shyngiar stream and one check dam across Umkaliar stream are being made.

“The entire source is perennial streams and the conveyance system shall be through canals,” Lyngdoh said adding “The existing earthen canals of the farmers have become inefficient due to leakages, silting, etc. Lining of these existing canals is also proposed in the estimate. The total length proposed for cc lining of existing canals is 1450 running meters.”(SP News)
