Shillong, Jan 4, 2014: As a token of appreciation for their efforts and hard work which has brought the Riatsamthiah Presbyterian Church to its 50th year of existence, the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee today felicitated 80 founding members most of them posthumous, at a special service held during the afternoon in the church.
While speaking on the occasion, Church Elder RG Dkhar vividly narrated the history of the inception of the Riatsamthiah Presbyterian Church, saying that although it is a small church, it is worth to thank the Lord for His blessing and guidance to the members who persevered throughout.
“It is the efforts of those members including pastors and church elders that we have reached another milestone with the celebration of our Golden Jubilee, so let us thank the Lord,” the senior church elder exhorted.
According to Church Elder RG Dkhar, it was way back in 1916 that some church elders of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church came up with the idea to have its own branch in Riatsamthiah and it was until 1924 that the idea was generally accepted, thus in 1928 the Riatsamthiah Branch of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church was formed with the Youth Service (Jingïaseng Samla).
Although building of the church started on June 25, 1963, it became full-fledged on January 5, 1964 was baptized on November 24, 1985.
The Golden Jubilee Celebration of Riatsamthiah Presbyterian Church will culminate with a special service (Jingïaseng Paidbah) on Sunday, January 5, 2014 under the theme “Ïa U Blei Long Ka Burom.”(SP News)
