Shillong, August 31: In commemorating the 10th anniversary of Lamlynti Boxing Club Mawlai (LBCM), a friendly football match was held between the Club and the Media fraternity today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Stadium, Polo.
In a small but auspicious gathering at the field, an exchange of mementos between the two participating clubs took place.
Speaking on the occasion the Shillong Press Club President David Laitphlang lauded the effort of the Boxing Club in promoting the sport in the state and its endeavor to bring the youth to a sporting future.
“Lamlynti Boxing Club has always been pursuing in uplifting the sport for the benefit of the youth in a humble way and we have been with them ever since its inception,” Laitphlang said.
The Shillong Press Club President reiterated the media support to all sports activities for the benefit of the youth of the state.
In welcoming the Press Club members, LBCM president Larry Kharpran expressed his appreciation to the support of the media fraternity.
“It is only through the media that boxing events are being highlighted to the public, and this is how the youth of the state can take advantage of the Club and shine in their talent,” Kharpran said.
Coming to the friendly match, LBCM took the lead when they scored their only goal against SPC XI at the 10th minute putting the SPC XI in disarray as they had not expected LBCM to be so strong.
Putting their acts together SPC defender Avinash Pradhan tricked everyone else by going to the front and took a pass from midfielder Banjop Mukhim scoring the equalizer to the amazement of all.
Although 90% of the game is controlled by SPC XI, missing of the target on attempt were the order of the day.
LBCM continued their attempt to dominate the game but strong defense by SPC XI makes their effort redundant.
SPC XI sealed their fate with a foul shot and a hat trick by midfielder Raining Lyngdoh who tipped the ball to Aditya Pradhan for conforming goal against LBCM making it a 2-1 win for SPC XI.(SP News)
