Government has notified 55 members as Labour Inspector to check migrant worker

Shillong Sept 09: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong informs that  55 numbers of officers from various line Departments have been notified  as  Labour  Inspectors by the Department of  Labour, Government of Meghalaya for the purpose of monitoring and inspecting  of work/construction sites to  check on illegal migrants in addition to the existing man power with the Labour Department in the East Khasi Hills District.

Hence, All Principal employers and contractors are therefore again directed to register thein respective establishments and obtain license from the office of Labour Commissioner, Meghalaya Shillong Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Sohra  and all Block Development Officers within their respective jurisdiction within 15 (fifteen)  starting from the 10th September, 2013.

Any principal employers, failing which defaulters shall be liable to penal action and prosecution as per Rules of the Inter Sate Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and conditions of Services) Act, 1979. This decision was taken in the recently held meeting of the District Level Task Force constituted for the purpose. (SP News)
