Government of Meghalaya fails to archive 100% rural electrification

Shillong, May 19: The Government of Meghalaya has set the target of 100% electrification in the state as a whole in the 11th five year plan but fail to achieve their target in spite the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) Limited has sanction the scheme as by the state government on the 18.3.2005.

The government of Meghalaya has asked the REC to sanction the scheme from the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran (RGGV) for the 1943 villages that were un-electrified and 370 villages that were de-electrified.

The State government has clearly mentioned if all thus villages were electrified Meghalaya will achieve 100% electrification in all the villages on the 11th five year plan which end on the financial year 2012.

The project director of the REC  base in Shillong said that the scheme RGGV is founded in the ration of 90: 10, which mean the central government will bear 90% and the state government has to bear 10% of the project cost. The 10% the state government can avail loan from the REC or they can do it from their own resources.

The last approached of the state government to the REC is on 2005 when they asked for scansion for the electrification of 1943 villages and 370 villages till date the government of Meghalaya has not give any report on the status of the villages that REC has sanction if they have completed or they will carried over to the 12th five year plan which begin this year 2013.(SP News)
