Shillong, July 16: The 108 Emergency response centre has proved it credit and reliability to the people who are in distressed not only in the state of Meghalaya but even outside the state.
In an inicident that took place today morning, the GVK EMRI, Meghalaya received a distressed call from a young girl from Dimapur, Nagaland who informed that she was being kidnapped.
As per the official statement released by the GVK, the girl informed that the perpetrator who is known to her instead of taking her home took her to a hotel in Dimapur.
Not knowing what to do at that moment of ordeal, and with no balance in her phone to inform her parents the girl hurriedly dial 108, the statement added.
The girl however narrated the incident to the Emergency Response Officer (ERO) Alleans Sangma who attended the call, the statement added.
The ERO helped the girl by connecting her to her father’s number by conferencing. During the conference call the victim disclosed that she was raped by the person who kidnapped her.
Besides, the ERO immediately inform the Police Control Room, Shillong and they in turn helped in providing their counterpart contact number in Dimapur.
After she had managed to escape from the hotel, the victim spotted an autorickshaw whereby the ERO asked her to hand over the phone to the auto driver and instructed him to take her to the nearest police station.
On enquiry with the Nagaland Police, they informed that the girl has been shifted to East Town Police Station and the kidnapper has been arrested.
The call reaches the unit in Shillong as all the North Eastern states apart from Assam share the same telecom circle and local calls made from the neighboring states often lands at 108 Meghalaya.(SP News)
