Headman of Ri Bhoi opposed the proposed dam construction by Assam at Killing

Shillong, Dec 16: The headman of the Ri Bhoi District particularly from Mawhati Jatah area today in the public meeting held at Jatah unanimously decided to opposed to the proposed dam construction by the Assam Government at Killing area over the Umiam River.

Many speakers who take part in the meeting said that if the Assam Government constructs a dam at the Lamalong area much agriculture land will be submerged under water which will affect the farmers of the areas.

In the public meeting they have decided that they should unite in opposing the project and the marginal farmers will be badly affected if the dam comes in the area. The Joint Action committee informs the public that they have already submitted the memorandum to the government and the District council to protest the proposed dam construction in the area.

In the public meeting they also discussed the  Draft Village Administration Bill 2012 of the KHADC, on these bill the meeting fill that the District council should have thorough  consultation before passing the Bill for proper administration at the village level.

The Chairman of the Khasi Traditional chief  in his speech said that from his site  he is ready to work together with the public to protect the interest of the people who are not in the position to defend themselves.(SP News)
