A delegation of IYC members led by Mahendran, the IYC general secretary in charge of Meghalaya and Deepika Pandey Singh, IYC secretary met state home minister Roshan Warjri to gather information on what steps have been initiated by the state government .

A press release  issued by Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) president, Gabriel Wahlang stated, “The discussions were very successful with an assurance by the Home Minister that such crimes committed against women will be punished no matter what position the person holds.”

The Congress youths also submitted a memorandum to Warjri which pointed to the fact that while Meghalaya is a “matrilineal state”, it is “a great shame that such crimes are committed from time to time”, while urging the government to dole out “exemplary punishment to rapists” so that others are forewarned.
