I have already filed case against the SP Tura MK Singh: Meena

Shillong, May 27:  The death in judicial custody of Balsan S Marak, a 20-year-old student from Tura has come as a shock and it exposes the police brutality.

Although the government has assured that magisterial and state level probes will be carried out, it will not bring back Balsan to his heart-broken mother, who has vowed to leave no stone unturned to find justice for her son.

Speaking to this reporter, Meena S Marak the heart broken mother of Balsan shared the whole story.

According to Mrs Marak, her son Balsan had told her that the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Singh along with his gunmen had beaten Balsan.

“When I met my son in the jail, he was not in his good health state. He said that the SP and his gunman had beaten him so badly at the right ear that he could not hear properly, broke his left arm, and was complaining of pain in his whole body.”So, the question that remains unanswered is whether the beating caused his death?

Despite the outcry that Balsan’s death has drawn, despite the state government assuring that no-one will be spared if found guilty, despite NGO protests and the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission and Legislators and representatives denouncing the death, nothing will bring back Balsan.

Balsan’s mother Meena S Marak has come to Shillong all the way from Tura travelling overnight to seek justice, after having filed a First Information Report in Tura alleging foul play in the mysterious death of her son while he was being remanded to 14 days judicial custody.

Coming from a poor background, Balsan just passed his 12th grade while his parents were hopeful for his bright future. The future no-one could foresee. The fate that Balsan S Marak met, just because he was accused of being involved with a group of NGOs in confining and torturing some ladies who were allegedly involved in flesh trade. But does he deserve to die for that? Do his parents and family deserve the pain of losing their loved one?

When asked what will be her further step, Meena said, “I have already filed case against the Superintendent Mukesh Kumar Singh and I am very determined that I will not give up; I will fight till my child get justice.”(SP News)
